Sharon A. Sherman Scholarship

In 1976 Sharon Sherman started selling clocks and gifts as a side-hustle while her kids were in school. A crazy new thing called a “microwave” came around. Back then, no one knew what a microwave was, and they sure didn't want to shell out a thousand bucks for one.

Together, she and her husband, Jack, constructed a microwave cooking school. Every Peorian and their friend attended Sharon's cooking classes. Well, maybe not everyone, but they were a hit, and we were officially in the home appliance business. And the rest is history. But if it wasn’t for Sharon's grit and early dedication to the business and her family, none of us would be here today.

After Sharon’s passing in 2021 our buying group, Nationwide, formed a scholarship in her honor. Every year the group awards the scholarship to other member companies and continues to support other independent women in reaching their goals.

But what does that mean for Sherman's?

Marsha (Sherman) and her husband Rich have generously decided to fund a year’s worth of executive coaching to another woman within Sherman’s so we can continue to celebrate Sharon's legacy here! Though Marsha and Rich are now retired in Alabama, they each dedicated over 30 years of their lives to continuing what Sharon started, and we wouldn’t be here today without their contributions either.
